Over here I don't normally make posts on consecutive days, but I'm trying to keep my pledge to update this blog at least twice a month.
Last night the instrumentalists of Laydes Fayre had another rehearsal. We're preparing for Lochmere's Midwinter's Revel next January. Since the 2026 revel, with the theme of "The Way of the Pilgrim," had to be canceled due to a storm, the 2027 version will have the exact same theme.
For this event, we are preparing instrumental versions of the "dancing pork chop" cantiga of the Cantigas de Santa Maria and four villancicos from the Cancionero de Palacio. They're not difficult to play, and I've already memorized my part of the cantiga. Yes, I am still playing the soprano recorder for these get-togethers, because I'm most confident on that model and we have other people playing alto and tenor/bass. I'll bet that we'll end up sounding great.. Now if we can just get people to listen to us...
